January Book Haul.

“I don’t believe in the kind of magic in my books. But I do believe something very magical can happen when you read a good book.” – J.K. Rowling.

I may not have bought any books last month, but I think I’ve made up for that this month with five new books! I don’t actually have any room on my TBR pile for them – I feel like it’s going to tip over – so until I get some more reading done I have no idea where to keep them. Oh well, once read they will have a lovely home on my book shelf amongst my other read books (I’ve recently resorted them a bit to make some more room).

January Favourites.

“Everybody is special. Everybody. Everybody is a hero, a lover, a fool, a villain. Everybody. Everybody has their story to tell.” – Alan Moore.

I’m going to be honest, I had been putting off doing this post for a few days. I suppose it is because there are so many things I have been loving this month that I don’t know which to include and how to organise it. Nevertheless, the time has come to reveal my January Favourites…

Books I Want To Reread.

“If one cannot enjoy reading a book over and over again, there is no use in reading it at all.” – Oscar Wilde. (I cannot remember if I have used this quote before or not – you’ll see throughout this post that I have a pretty terrible memory – but it seemed relevant for this post.)

I have always been a big lover of reading and this stems back to as far as I can possibly remember. As a result I have read a lot of books and have lots of books I would love to reread whether this be because I loved them so much, or because I cannot actually remember how I felt about the book.

How To: Water Marble Nails.

Nail Art Wednesdays Marble Nails

“Keeping up the appearance of having all your marbles is hard work, but important.” – Sara Gruen.

I have admired water marble nail designs since I first began practising nail art, but it took a while for me to give it a go myself. Water marble is often a lengthy and messy process which I always found off-putting (and still do) and the first time I tried it a couple of years ago I failed miserably.

Review: Drew (Changers #1) by T. Cooper and Allison Glock-Cooper

“Changer: A member of an ancient race of humans imbued with the gift of changing into a different person four times between the ages of approximately fourteen and eighteen.” – T. Cooper and Allison Glock-Cooper.

changers drewFirst of all, I would just like to point out that the definition above is by no means a full definition of what a Changer is. I thought to provide it though in order to aid this review.

Second important note: this is an ARC I received through NetGalley which has recently been published with this lovely new cover and which is now available (I’ve even seen it for myself in my local Waterstones just last week).

Now, onto the review…

Review: You’re the One That I Want by Giovanna Fletcher.

“There’s only so long you can live in a fantasy world before the reality comes along to sharply put you back in your place.” – Giovanna Fletcher.

you're the one that I wantI am so pleased to have finally read Giovanna’s second novel. The first novel, Billy and Me, I enjoyed immensely, so ever since this book I had been itching to read it, but as always, other books kept getting in the way. However, I’ve finally read it and considering I did just mention her previous book, I want to put it out there that I appreciated the Billy reference in You’re the One That I Want, haha.

You’re the One That I Want is the story of Maddy, Robert and Ben. Throughout the novel we see from all of their perspectives, but mostly Maddy and Ben’s. This trio have been best friends since childhood and Maddy loves them both, but which one is the right one for her?

Lipstick Love: Pinks.

“I believe it’s perfectly normal to love both lipstick and literature, to be a woman who paints her nails while shouting at Question Time.” – Sali Hughes.

Lipstick Love is a recent feature I have started on this blog in which I share with you all my love of lipstick by showing you my favourites. Technically, these aren’t all lipsticks, some may be lip glosses, for example, but they will all be lip products which I love. This is the second instalment in this series, so if you missed the first one, please click here.

Harry Potter Inspired Nail Art.

Nail Art Wednesdays Harry Potter.jpg

“Of course it is happening inside your head, Harry, but why on earth should that mean that it is not real?” – J.K. Rowling.

For those who have been following my blog, you will have noticed that I have been rereading the Harry Potter series recently (to see my reviews on these books please click here). As a result, I thought that this would be the ideal time to share with you some of the nail art I’ve created over the years inspired by these books.

Review: Illuminae by Amie Kaufman and Jay Kristoff.

illuminae“They are beyond me.
These humans.
With their brief lives and their tiny dreams and their hopes that seem fragile as glass.
Until you see them by starlight, that is.” – Amie Kaufman and Jay Kristoff.

Everything about this book is just beautiful.

From the colourful front cover to the way the words flow on the page (sometimes quite literally) and the detail put into these pages it is all just beautiful.
