Friday Favourites: Tanya Burr Cosmetics.

“Don’t overestimate everyone else and underestimate yourself.” – Tanya Burr.

Tanya Burr products and meAnyone who is subscribed to Tanya on YouTube, or follows her on one of her social media accounts will be aware of her products, including her fairly recent releases to her cosmetics range this year. There are now eyeshadow palettes and cheek palettes and eyelashes, and even an eyebrow palette on top of the original lip glosses and nail polishes.

Before jumping in, I would like to take a brief moment and apologise for the quality of these photos. I usually rely on daylight to take blog photos, but there has not been a lot of that this week which has made it difficult.

Tanya Burr lipglossWhen Tanya’s products were first released I was very excited as I am a lip and nail product lover; however, it did take me a while to get a hold of any. Unfortunately, my local Superdrug didn’t stock the products, but I ordered a couple of the lip glosses online to try out. This is why the lip glosses pictured have the old packaging. The shades I bought were Aphrodite and Berry Picking. I love the names Tanya gives all of her products and how they go so perfectly with the colours of them. I don’t know anybody who doesn’t enjoy a makeup product with a proper name rather than just a number.

I really like these lip glosses and will definitely be purchasing more at some point; I cannot wait to own some with the new packaging. In fact, my only flaw with the original collection was a dislike of the packaging because it made it look really cheap. However, now it looks so much more classy.

The formula of the lip glosses has a lovely scent (obviously the first thing I noticed, I do love a sweet smelling lip product) and is rather sticky. At first, I was not fond of the stickiness, but this helps the product to stay on the lips and it doesn’t make the product off-putting at all as it’s something that fades. The collection has a lovely colour range, although there seems to be a lot of pink shades, making it incredibly difficult for me to choose which one I want.

Tanya Burr Penguin ChickDespite wanting to try out Tanya’s nail polishes since they first launched, it wasn’t until the beginning of this week that I actually bought one.

I’m happy to finally own one of these and even happier I waited due to the nicer packaging. The shade I have (pictured to the right) is Penguin Chick. This is a lovely cool toned brown and therefore perfect as we’re rapidly approaching winter.

Going back to packaging, I was a little unsure for this nail polish because I worried that the larger lid would make the application of the product difficult. However, I actually find it really handy. This is because there is room to rest all of your fingers on the lid when painting your nails and this makes your hand steadier, therefore enabling a neater paint job.

In terms of the quality of the nail polish, it is about as good as any other nail polish. The brush is bigger than I actually expected, making it easier to paint with, so I was impressed by that. The formula is rather thin, but that’s the same with all good nail polishes as it always gets thicker the longer you own it. I was also happy because the nail polish lasted well during my first shift at work (for those who don’t follow me on Twitter, I got a new job in Boots a couple of weeks ago and Wednesday was my first day).

Tanya Burr Rosy Flush paletteMy next Tanya Burr Favourite is one of her cheek palettes; this is Rosy Flush.

This palette has surprisingly got to be my favourite of the whole collection. This is surprising because when the cheek palettes were announced, I wasn’t particularly interested. I mean, I already had a couple of bronzers, I never wear blush due to my naturally rosy cheeks and I could get by using an eyeshadow as a highlighter.

However, then I saw a recent video on YouTube by Hello October and I decided that I wanted it.

Tanya Burr Rosy Flush insideThe cheek palette impressed me a lot and I am so glad I bought it now. The bronzer, blush and highlighter are so pretty and very pigmented and blend-able. I do not regret this purchase one bit and can easily see it becoming one of my everyday products after now having been using it all week.

Tanya Burr Rosy Flush on meBefore I bought this I actually ordered a new bronzer which is due to arrive soon and while I cannot wait to try that out, I love this palette so much that I don’t want to stop using it so soon after falling in love with it.

Overall, if you are unsure as to whether or not to buy this product like I was, I think it is well worth it and definitely recommend it. It also has lovely packaging with a large mirror on the inside. I sent one of my best friends a photo of the inside of the palette and her first thought was that it was by Benefit and we all know about their gorgeous packaging!

Tanya Burr Fairytale paletteMy final Tanya Burr Favourite is, of course, one of her eyeshadow palettes. Unfortunately, the one I was desperately after, Hollywood, was not in stock when I went into Superdrug, but the other two were. After a lot of back and forth I finally settled on the Fairytale palette.

Tanya Burr Fairytale inside A couple of things swayed me towards this palette: the matte finishes, especially on the black eyeshadow, and the names, one of which referenced Harry Potter.

As I said earlier, I love the names Tanya has given to all of her products, this palette being no exception.

In addition to the photo with terrible lighting on the left, I also tried to swatch the eyeshadows in slightly better lighting.

Tanya Burr Fairytale swatchesFrom top to bottom we have:

  • Cream tea.
  • Velvet cushion.
  • Alohomora.
  • Witches cat.

I was a little unsure of these eyeshadows at first. This is because they weren’t very pigmented on the eyes. However, it is easy to build it up to the desired intensity and blend together. Also, this means that you can wear the eyeshadows as light or as dark as you wish, therefore making this palette more versatile than you would expect. They also lasted fairly well on the eyes throughout the day without the use of an eyeshadow primer which impressed me.

As a whole, I am very pleased with all of the products  purchased and definitely intend to buy more. Tanya is a big inspiration to many people, including myself, and it’s so lovely to see how far she has come. At the moment Tanya also has some limited edition products out especially for Christmas, so if you are interested make sure that you check those out before it’s too late.
