“Books are like mirrors: if a fool looks in, you cannot expect a genius to look out.” – J.K. Rowling.
That’s right, it’s September 1st and therefore time for a fresh new year at Hogwarts. There’s no time to waste, the Hogwarts Express leaves at precisely 11 am!
Due to today being the day that all wizards aged 11-17 board the Hogwarts Express, this post is dedicated to that very train. Not excited? Well, I went to the Harry Potter Studio Tour in London in the middle of August where they have the Hogwarts Express as the latest addition to the tour. I have written a little about this experience already here, but I didn’t want to spoil any surprises for anyone still to go. Now, however, I will, so you have been warned.
The first surprise for me was seeing Platform Nine and Three Quarters as I only expected there to be the train.
Unfortunately, my friends and I felt too embarrassed to queue up for a photo, but it made a lovely shot on its own anyway. Walking past, even if I did have a photo, you were allowed to borrow a scarf for the picture and I would have no idea which house I would pick (I’m a mix of a Ravenclaw and Slytherin).
Which scarf would you pick?
Next to Platform Nine and Three Quarters there was a little shop. The previous times I had been there had only been the one massive shop at the end and the outside cafe in the middle. However, this time they had a little Railway Shop sellng merchandise, most of which was inspired by the Hogwarts Express and school items, including wands, scarves, sweets, t-shirts, stuffed animals etc.
Now, the train. To my absolute pleasure I discovered that you were able to actually walk through the Hogwarts Express. And each of the carriages were decorated the same way as they appeared in the movie, so there was a carriage dedicated to each film (except the second because they took the car to Hogwarts!).
After going on the Hogwarts Express, you have the opportunity to sit in a carriage with a screen so that you can see the scenes our favourite characters witness on their journeys to Hogwarts through the years.
As you’re about to leave Platform Nine and Three Quarters there are mannequins made up showing the first scene with Harry and Ron on the Hogwarts Express and the costumes from the last scene of the series with grown-up Harry, Ron, Hermione and Ginny at Platform Nine and Three Quarters.
I hope you enjoyed this more detailed post on one part of the Harry Potter Studio Tour, especially after having received comments on the first post of people wanting to hear more about the Hogwarts Express.
If you haven’t yet been to the Harry Potter Studio Tour, it is a must for all Harry Potter fans.
Have you ever been to the Harry Potter Studio tour?
